As a partner of transform.NRW, the Wuppertaler Bühnen aim to strengthen the social impact of their work and actively contribute to the diversity and vitality of the cultural landscape. Creative collaboration and the open exchange of ideas form the foundation of their work. They are committed to cultural participation, support innovative projects, and create spaces for encounter and dialogue. Through collaboration with partners and co-creators, they generate momentum that extends beyond the here and now and enriches cultural coexistence in the long term. Participation in transform.NRW opens up the opportunity to actively help shape the socio-ecological transformation—driven by an inspiring, mutual exchange that fosters new perspectives and ideas.

The Wuppertaler Bühnen promote a circular production model through the reuse of modular systems. By employing resource-efficient processes, they make their cultural operations climate-friendly and economically sustainable, and they actively encourage the audience to use eco-friendly modes of transportation to attend performances. At the same time, inclusive formats, edutainment offerings, and mobile programs strengthen cultural participation. Since the 2019/20 season, the inclusive studio STUDIYOU at the Schauspiel Wuppertal has been training people with disabilities to become professional actors and actresses. Furthermore, outreach efforts at its partner schools, in-house theater clubs, and summer programs promote a low-barrier entry point into culture. Local partnerships with associations, businesses, and foundations also continually open up new, varied, and diverse perspectives.
