Hidaka Ohmu

Hidaka Ohmu is an organic, translucent, and modular pavilion made of algae and rattan by Julia Lohmann. The biodesigner uses the unique properties of algae to create a multisensory experience of nature for visitors. The pavilion invites visitors to reflect on our relationship with the ocean and its ecosystems. Algae, in particular, offer a wide range of potential applications, such as for food or as a design material. Hidaka Ohmu was selected for the exhibition Partnering with Nature at the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, held as part of the 50th annual meeting of the World Economic Forum, and was featured in the exhibition WEtransFORM – On the Future of Building at the Bundeskunsthalle.
